Amit Shah Must Apologize to Nation for Remarks on Ambedkar, Demanding Congress Chief
New Delhi, July 5, 2023: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has vehemently condemned Home Minister Amit Shah's recent remarks on Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, calling them "condemnable" and demanding an apology from the Union Minister.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Kharge expressed his outrage at Shah's statement, which he alleged insulted the Dalit hero and icon of India's Constitution.
Shah's Remarks on Ambedkar
Shah, while addressing a rally in Maharashtra on Tuesday, had claimed that Ambedkar did not support the reservation system for Dalits but was forced to include it in the Constitution due to political pressure.
Kharge refuted this claim, stating that Ambedkar was a staunch advocate for the upliftment of Dalits and other marginalized communities. He said that the reservation system was not imposed on Ambedkar but was his own creation, designed to address the centuries-old discrimination and injustice faced by these communities.
Kharge's Condemnation
"Amit Shah's remarks on Ambedkar are not only false but also highly insensitive and insulting to Dalits," Kharge said. "He has disrespected the memory of a great man who fought for the rights of the oppressed."
Kharge added that Shah's comments were part of a deliberate attempt by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to divide society and create communal tensions.
Demand for Apology
"I strongly demand an apology from Amit Shah to the people of India for his outrageous and irresponsible remarks," Kharge said. "He must not only apologize but also withdraw his false claims about Ambedkar."
Kharge further called upon the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, to intervene in the matter and condemn Shah's statement. He said that the silence of the Prime Minister on this issue would be tantamount to supporting Shah's divisive agenda.
Congress Reaction
The Congress party has rallied behind Kharge's condemnation of Shah's remarks. Several senior Congress leaders have issued their own statements expressing outrage and demanding an apology.
The party has also launched a social media campaign under the hashtag #ShahApologize, urging the public to join the demand for an apology from the Home Minister.
BJP's Defense
The BJP has defended Shah's remarks, saying that they were taken out of context. However, the Congress party and other opposition parties have rejected this defense, calling it an attempt to avoid accountability.
The controversy over Shah's remarks is likely to escalate in the coming days, with the Congress and other opposition parties vowing to keep the pressure on the Home Minister until he apologizes.
