Guwahati, October 19, 2023: In a heartwarming move, the Assam government has introduced two special days off in November for state employees to spend quality time with their parents or parents-in-law. This innovative initiative, dubbed "Parents' Leave," reflects the government's commitment to strengthening family ties and honoring elders in the community.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, while announcing the new policy, stressed the paramount importance of family in our lives. He said, "Family is the bedrock of our society, and it is our duty to cherish and care for our parents, who have sacrificed so much for us. These special leaves will give our employees an opportunity to reconnect with their ageing parents and show them how much we appreciate their love and support."

The "Parents' Leave" will be granted on November 6 and 8, allowing employees to travel to their parents' homes or invite them for a visit. "We have noticed that with our hectic work schedules, many of us inadvertently neglect the needs of our parents," said Chief Secretary Jishnu Barua. "This leave will encourage employees to prioritize their family responsibilities and foster a stronger bond between generations."

The government has instructed all departments and agencies to ensure that the "Parents' Leave" is implemented smoothly and without any hindrances. Employees are encouraged to plan their leave in advance to avoid any disruptions to their work.

The "Parents' Leave" has been met with overwhelming support from state employees. Many employees expressed their gratitude to the government for recognizing the importance of family time.

"I'm so happy with this decision," said Anjali Borah, an employee of the Public Health Department. "My parents live in a remote village, and I hardly get to see them. These leaves will give me the chance to spend some quality time with them and learn more about their lives."

Another employee, Rajeev Sharma, said, "My father-in-law is not keeping well, and I'm worried about him. This leave will give me an opportunity to visit him and take care of him."
